What to expect — and what to bring You will be invited for regular reviews with the asthma nurse, usually every 6 months but if you are struggling to control your asthma you will be asked to come in more often.
The appointment should take about 20 minutes. Your asthma nurse will:
- ask about your symptoms — you will be asked complete and bring along a form about your symptoms (Asthma Control Test).
- check your peak flow reading to see how well your lungs are working.
- check your inhaler technique to make sure you’re getting the correct dose of medicine —please bring along all the inhalers and spacers you currently use.
- agree a written asthma action plan with you, this is a step by step guide to help you stay on top of your asthma, and spot if your symptoms are getting worse. – If you have a written asthma action plan, please bring this with you
- record your height if you are on inhaled steroid (once a year)
- check your vaccination are up to date
If you are experiences any problems in between appointments please contact the practice as soon as possible and do not wait to be invited.
