VACCINATIONS


Guidance to keep you safe when attending your vaccination appointment  


While coronavirus has put limitations on all our lives, it is important that you or your baby or child still have routine vaccinations. They protect against serious and potentially deadly illnesses and stop outbreaks in the community. We recommend that you [attend/book in for] your next scheduled appointment – see www.nhs.uk/vaccinations for details on when they are due.


 


Travelling to and from your appointment


 


When travelling to and from your appointment, please follow guidelines which include travelling by car, bike or on foot if possible, keeping a safe distance from others and washing your hands regularly. For more details, go to www.gov.uk and search ‘staying safe outside your home’.


 


When attending your appointment


 


When attending your appointment, we will be putting in place a range of measures to minimise any risk of COVID-19:




    • social distancing measures will be observed;

    • we may have asked you to attend your appointment at a clinic that is not at your usual venue;

    • the appointment may take longer than usual.   

    • If you are identified as clinically extremely vulnerable and have been shielding, please contact your GP practice for the latest advice on what to do.

    • You must NOT attend an appointment if you or any member of your household are suffering from any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19 or are self-isolating. If this applies to you, please contact your GP practice so that you can reschedule your appointment for a different time.

    • Due to the ongoing response to COVID-19, our service may have a reduced number of appointment slots available. If you choose not to attend your appointment, please contact your GP practice. It is always helpful for us to know why so we can help you with any concerns you might have. If you still don’t wish to attend the appointment, it can be offered to someone else.



 


CORONAVIRUS


Following advice from NHS England in view of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) update, as from Monday 16 March 2020 all routine appointments with a doctor or nurse practitioner will first be assessed by telephone triage.


Following your telephone assessment, if the doctor feels you need to be seen face to face then arrangements will be made accordingly.


Our priority remains to offer medical care to our patients with the most urgent medical needs, which may mean we have to suspend some services or are unable to see patients for routine appointments.


In line with the NHS guidance we have temporarily suspended the option of booking appointments online, this allows for all appointments to be triaged by telephone.


These measures are being put in place as a precautionary measure to protect both public and staff.


We will update our website as soon as the situation changes.

Patients to wear face covering when visiting practice

Wearing a face covering helps to reduce the spread of coronavirus from anyone who is infected but is pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic, meaning they aren't yet showing any symptoms. This face covering could be a scarf, bandana or homemade mask (see below for ideas on how to make your own.) Ideally, we are asking that a surgical mask should not be used as it is important that these remain available for frontline NHS and Care staff. This stipulation from the practice came before the government announcement that face coverings should be worn on public transport and in some shops.

Many patients now arriving at the practice already wear their own often distinctive and attractive, homemade masks, which we really appreciate. We are also asking that patients come in for their appointments alone where possible, to further reduce the risk of any infection being spread.

Caring responsibilities can make it difficult to maintain friendships or develop new ones. Telling your friends you're a carer is important so they understand and can support you.

Caring for someone can be a full-time job, but it's essential that you take time out for yourself too. Read our guide to accessing breaks and respite.

Do you know your tenancy rights as a carer? Are you aware of all your care at home options? Do you need tips on moving someone around the home?

If you are a carer who helps and supports someone who cannot manage on their own, we want to ensure you get all the support you need. 

To enable us to do this we need to know certain facts about your caring situation. 

If you would like to register as a carer then please contact us and request a Carers Identification & Referral Form. 

Chaperones

If you feel you would like a Chaperone present at your consultation, please inform your Doctor/ Nurse, who will be more than happy to arrange this for you.

Access

The health centre is situated in the centre of town next to Oldham Central Bus Station, providing transport access from all areas of the borough. Access for disabled patients is provided on the premises. Limited disabled car parking is available.
